Fishing! Fishing! || @rune-edge

etherealsummoner:

rune-edge:

There was just something about Terra’s presence in general that was calming, despite the fact that most, if not all of the memories tied to the girl ranged anywhere from remorseful to downright horrifying. Their time at the magitek facility together was a very strained, very blurry time; she may have met Terra maybe once before the girl was enslaved, though it wasn’t something she remembered well, if at all, and their time afterwards had been spent doing nothing but figuring out the way of the espers, fighting off Kefka’s attacks, and trying to find their own way in the now broken world they called home. Such times didn’t really pave the way for a good atmosphere, really, but Terra’s personality in general was just so positive, untainted and innocent that Celes couldn’t help but smile in return as soon as she saw the girl. She admired her more than anything, honestly; to say that Terra was special was an understatement, though in Celes’ eyes is was more because of the person she was than the creature.

It was that comforting and even endearing way about her that made this decision that much easier, despite how painful the activity could be for the former general. Fishing, again, was something that brought back flashes of failure, but this was Terra, and she seemed so eager. That much was obvious; she’d brought her own rods, she’d gathered bait and supplies, and her excitement over everything was actually adorable, honestly, a word Celes had probably never thought before in her life. Of course, for a second she wondered if she could actually teach with a fishing rod, as she’d really only ever used a net, but she imagined it couldn’t be too different, right? Same concept, different weapon, no big deal.

“Oh, it’s not a problem at all,’ she finally replied with a smile of her own, soft and gentle as she reached down to grab the rod Terra had brought along. A careful thumb gently ran up the body of the rod, her eyes carefully inspecting. It was sturdy, strong, but obviously well-used, and absently she wondered, before the world’s rapture, how often Duanne went out fishing with Katarin, and how their life was before, as well. Such cynical thoughts were nearly automatic for Celes these days, as everywhere she looked she found blaring, obvious signs of what was before and what was now, but it was especially hard to ignore when it was right in front of her.

Quickly she realized she’d grown distant in thought, though, and, shaking her head, she looked back at Terra. “Alright, the first thing you need to know how to do is bait the hook.” Terra seemed eager to get everything started which was absolutely fine for Celes as well; wasting time wasn’t something she enjoyed, so she reached down and grabbed the bread before picking off a piece and holding it up. “It’s easy, really, all you have to do is just slip it over the sharp end. Make sure it pierces the middle,’ she rambled, doing just that, ‘and it should stay on pretty well. If you pierce it on the edges, chances are it will break off when it hits the water.”

Was she being to descriptive? She really had no idea; she was accustomed to teaching some things, but she always had the tendency to go overboard with details.

Each and every time, Terra always finds the blond fighter admirable. She is almost everything she is not. Confident, strong, intelligent and admirable. The green-haired lady always finds herself in awe each time she is in the presence of the blond woman. She also feels it is such an honor to be personally taught something by her. Though, Terra also took this as a note as to not be a terrible student and be sure to catch on every detail and step Celes tells her.

That thought geared into her mind, her face fell into a concentrated expression as she patiently watched Celes inspect the equipment Duanne lent her. Once more she is fascinated at how calm and collected Celes appeared. Obviously, not at all unfamiliar to these tools and of course not! Terra has seen Celes’ expertise in this activity - exactly why Terra personally asked her for this lesson in the first place.

Plus, she has always been reminded to take the initiative to become closer to her friends. Indeed, this is what she dearly hopes to achieve. She is in dire need of breaking out of her shell and become more outgoing. Besides, Terra is always being told to get out more often and not focus on house tasks and the likes for once. So here she is now, about to learn the crafting of capturing fish. When Celes began to spoke, Terra’s interest immediately perked up and only zoned in on Celes, all ears for her. She nodded, very attentive when Celes explained the part on how to attack the bait.

“Oh, Duanne simply gave me whatever he prefers to use, but what sort of bait do you feel is best?” she questioned Celes. Oh! This also caused her to remember something. “Ah, he gave me this as well…let’s see…” She bent down slightly and started rummaging through the bag until she found a small closed can. “He didn’t have time to mention what’s inside but-” Terra’s voice cut off the moment she uncapped it. Her face paled slightly and she froze, shivers running down her spine. “A-Ahhh!!!” she cried out after a moment, at last. Due to her sudden act of surprise, the can fell from her hand and landed on the ground, spilling its contents.

Live worms.

Perhaps Celes should have taken the time to explain bait and what variety of flavors it came in, but for once that minor detailed had mostly slipped her mind. There were very few things that managed to bother her in the long run, and as she’d fished quite a few times before, using both live and inanimate bait, she’d hardly found the idea of using worms and, even more so, killing worms bothersome.

Needless to say, the blond actually startled a bit at the sound of Terra’s cries, her eyes widened as she shifted into something like a defensive stance, already seeing the worst in the situation. Had someone approached them? She turned a bit, her eyes cast over her shoulder, narrowed sharply against whatever foe had scared her friend, though to her surprise she found… nothing.

It took her a good while to finally trail downwards, towards the ground and towards the source of Terra’s scare, and once she finally caught sight of the now squirming worms scattered across the forest floor, her eyebrow quirking ever so slightly before an involuntary laugh escaped her throat, dry and amused. She figured it probably wasn’t unusual for someone to dislike the creatures; in reality, they were actually somewhat nasty, dirty and uncouth and disturbing, but it was second nature for her and that much was obvious as she bent down, scooped one off of the ground, and smiled at Terra.

"Not a big fan of worms, hm?" she asked, grabbing the line from the fishing rod and catching the hook in her hand before she pushed the sharp edge through the top of the creature, watching as it moved slower and slower until it finally stopped. "It’s okay, there are other types of bait we can get you. I’ll hook them for you until we do."

“Hmm? Oh!” Reaching up, she pats at the bandana before smiling slightly. “You think so? I may have to wear it all the time, then.”

“Just hang onto that bandana then, I’ve got another extra.”

Leaning forward, the blond pressed a quick, soft kiss to his lips (like it was the most natural thing ever) before she pulled back and smiled a bit brightly, her head tilting. “Thanks. Though this doesn’t mean I’ll start ‘treasure hunting’, does it?

“Heh”

“Not unless you want it to!” He responded, planting a small kiss on her cheek

“Oh, I don’t think I’m the stealing type.”

“No offense.”

“Ey’ you know I don’t like stealing. Unless it’s from my enemies!”

"Relocating things, then?

Of course she was? Then why had he mentioned it in the first place? Squinting, she tilted her head briefly, though before any major upset could set in, he was already beckoning her over and she followed wordlessly and easily.

“What is it?”

“Here, just turn around for a second.”

“There! It looks great! I had a hunch it might!”
